Golden girl Vonn faces World ski anguish

The 24-year-old overall World Cup leader definitely sits out Thursday's giant slalom after surgery following the freak accident as she celebrated her second gold medal in France.

Vonn still hopes to race in Saturday's slalom, but her Web site says the final verdict "depends on how the healing process continues and will not be decided until Saturday morning during the warm-up."

"I'm still quite sore," Vonn told Austrian V3 public radio. "We'll see if I'll be able to start the slalom.

"I have to take into consideration my whole season. For me it's also the overall World Cup standings that is at stake."

The freak accident happened as Vonn partied with friends during the award celebration where she picked up a bottle without realising it was broken and attempted to spray friends with champagne.

She was treated at the team hotel by U.S. team doctor Jeff Harrison who inserted four stitches to close the wound and the following morning Vonn flew to Austria by private jet for minor surgery.

What are the average ski rental prices in Grindelwald Switzerland?

What are the average prices of Ski hire in Grindelwald Switzerland?
Hello,
I've heard that switzerland is an expensive place to ski. I'm going in January and was wondering what kind of costs to prepare for?
Are there any good value ski rental outlets?
Can i get English ski lessons midweek?
Any good restraunts or hetels i should check up?

If you ski in Grindelwald, go to Burri-Sports, there you have skirental and english speaking instructors, ask for alex, he is an oz and really good istructor. I dont know the prices for rental, but in general it is cheaper then in the states, australia or new zealand.
In depense how old you are, there are diferent places to check, some good snowbars for exemple, like "Muni-Bar" which is on the slope back to village from first, which is one mountain of grindelwald, it is also already close to the village, so you can enjoy a few drinks, without still ski far....
Then in the village is a bar called "espresso-bar" where are also a lot of locals which can tell you wehr to go. Then downstairs from the espresso-bar is the mescalero for later on, in the early evening it is a mexican Restaurant, later kind of a disco....
There are more nice bars around the place to check, like just over the street from the espresso-bar in the hotel eiger upstairs, with some really good housemade burgers, or a snowshoe-tour at night-time with brunners outdoorshop, which you can also find on the mainstreet, with a hotwine-stop, or sometimes even with a cheese fondue in a little house outside the village... many things to do in a lovely place, you did a really good choice with grindelwald, myself was spending two years there aa a skiinstructor, then i was one year in zermatt, now in portes du soleil....
For prices you just go to the grindelwald homepage, I think there you can find them..
hope i could help you..

What ski resort in the US is the best one to go to?

My family is very new to skiing and we are interested in taking a ski trip. I however am an avid skiier and do black diamonds with little trouble. Anyway we dont want to travel to the europe or canada or somthing. We'd prefer somthing in colorado or somewhere else out west in the rockies. I'd be looking for a place for beginners to improve and that has some areas for more experienced skiiers. Also i would prefer if there were other resorts in the vicinity. Any guidance is much appreciated :)

HEY TRY ski resorts in UTAH they have tons during november thru march....

What's the difference between Ski Magazine and Skiing Magazine?

I love to ski, and I subscribed to ski magazine last year. Now that it's time to re-subscribe, I'm curious about Skiing magazine. What is the difference in content between the two magazines? Do they have a slightly different focus?

Both magazines currently cater to roughly the same target demographic. I get a free subscription to Skiing but haven't bought Ski in years.

Both magazines change their format to meet current trends quite often. Skiing's current focus leans towards Big Mountain and Freestyle skiing, but quite often has some well written long articles about a certain resort or a skiing personality. They also tend to lean toward short, quick one-page pieces in the "Inside Line" and "Get Schooled" sections. This is good because if you are an anal-retentive mofo like me, you can tear out one of these pages and put it into a sheet protector and file it in a 3-ring binder for future reference. Skiing also has (usually) the final section devoted to the East. (The "East Scene") So us idiots in New England and the Mid-Atlantic can read something and say..."Wow. I can actually afford to go THERE and not have to buy a plane ticket and call off work for a week."

Backcountry magazine is another option of you are a telemarker/alpine touring skier.

N'East focuses on lots of sports, but does some seriously great articles and photo spreads on snowsports in the Northeast.

(Just throwing out some other mags...I don't want to sound like a Skiing magazine flunkie.)

What is the best ski resort in Colorado?

I am planning a trip in early February to Colorado to see snow for the first time, and to learn how to ski. I hear Ski resorts are fun and I would like some insight on some of the better ski resorts and their location. Thanks.

if you are going to be learning to ski, dont spend $400 on a ticket, you wil be on the kiddie hill, for a MAX of 6 hours a day. its just not worth it.as a local, i reccomend Ski Cooper, it is a small hill with 2 chairlifts, a poma, kiddie hill, green and blue runs, and almost no tourists, it is off the beaten path, yet easy to get to. only 15 minutes from historic leadville, and 25 minutes from Vail, ski cooper is great! tickets run for about $30. or, ski lessons, rental and lift ticket will run you $50-$60 as opposed to around $300 for lesson and rental alone.

hope i helped!!!

aspen is more like 4.5 hours from denver. less like 2. and its more expensive then vail.

What kind of of ski mask can you buy online that is non-itchy and that has breathing holes for mouth and nose?

What kind of of ski mask can you buy online that is non-itchy and that has breathing holes for mouth and nose? I'm going on a ski with some friends in a few months and I'm looking for ski mask or something similar to buy online that is non-itchy, comfortable to wear, will keep my face warm, and that has breathing holes for the mouth and nose. Please help!

I'd suggest a neoprene mask. This is the material that wet suits are made from and is non itchy and totally windproof. There are lots of styles etc that will give different amounts of coverage depending upon what you want. These will usually have a velcro closure at the back and are convenient to take off when you get off the lift if you decide to just tuck it in a pocket while you ski.

You can also consider a microfleece type of material. This is not like wool or the cheap acrylics than can be scratchy. Any fleece material will not be as windproof as neoprene but may suffice. Many times these fit like a pull over and are less convenient to take on and off.

Here is one source to look at.
